(1/1/2019)  New Year Greetings

A very happy, peaceful and healthy New Year to all our members.

Why not make a New Year Resolution to attend at least one of our events this year. We would love to see you and seeing old friends will certainly do your heart good.

(25/12/2018)  Christmas Wishes to all our members

The Fellowship would like to wish each and everyone of our members a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

At this time of year we remember with great affection all our past members who have gone before us and brought us so many happy times together.

We wish you all good health in 2019 and to those who are experiencing difficulties be assured that you are in our thoughts.

Next year - 2019 is our 80th anniversary and we hope to see as many as possible at the annual dinner in May to celebrate this major milestone. We have moved the dinner to May in the hope that those who don't like going out in winter nights will be able to attend. Everyone will be receiving an invitation so even if you haven't been to an event in a number of years we'd love to see you. Come along and meet old friends.

(23/12/2018)  Happy Birthday to our special Christmas Baby

A very happy birthday to the Polio Fellowship's own Christmas Baby - Joe McVeigh. Joe celebrates his birthday on Christmas Day. It must have been some cradle to hold him. All the best Joe on your big day from all your friends in the Fellowship.

(17/12/2018)  80th Anniversary Celebrations Begin

The first event to mark the 80th anniversary of the Northern Ireland Polio Fellowship took place today at the Slieve Donard Hotel. The Fellowship planted an oak tree in the grounds of the hotel (at the Spa entrance)with a granite plinth with the following words "This oak tree was planted to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Polio Fellowship in Northern Ireland in 1939 and in memory of our highly regarded president Sir William Hastings (1928 - 2017).

Our chairperson Bobby Doherty unveiled the plinth and thanked Sir William's wife Lady Joy Hastings for attending the unveiling. Lady Joy was presented with flowers. Our current president Aileen Martin (Sir William's daughter) was also in attendance as well as 20 members of the Fellowship.

After the unveiling we all had a magnificent lunch in the hotel restaurant and spend an hour and a half remembering old times and old friends.

If any member is in Newcastle call into the hotel and view the oak at the spa entrance and spare a thought for all our many members over the last 80 years. Some of us today made a promise, if God spares us, to come back on our 100th anniversary and see how the tree has grown into a mighty oak.
